Henry Agbo from Harvard asks whether there could be any negative effects in networking with managers from other divisions- whether this could be seen as you being dissatisfied with your current group. It is important to understand the culture at your company- whether they encourage you to learn about the different divisions and even provide you with the opportunity to do so. It is also important to understand their stance on mobility between divisions. Talking to previous interns/mentors/HR about this can provide the necessary insight here- based on which you can decide on your approach. However at no time should your level of engagement in your current division- and the quality of your work- suffer! Remember even if you are seriously contemplating an interest in a different division than the one you are interning in- and want to talk to your company about this- they are likely to respond to the request favorably only if you have performed excellently at your current job.
