Gearing Up for Your Internship

Adenikke Soremekun (University of Southern California) advises you to really get to know your company. Follow it in the news and know who the CEO and other important players are. While you will most likely never meet them, you don't want to be the intern who doesn't know who the CEO is when your group is discussing some important current event. Keeping up on the latest news also allows you to make meaningful contributions to conversations that go on during down time. Dania Shor (Stanford University) suggests you thoroughly research the company with which you are interning – everything from its history to recent transactions and stories that have put the company in the news. This will allow you to feel like you’re a part of the company as well as connect with colleagues over such topics as company benefits, community programs or recent news.
