Conversations with colleagues in your group

Lauren Freeman at Stanford suggests a great way to start a conversation with a colleague in your group/at your desk. If you are running an errand for them, say getting them a cup of coffee or dropping off something at their desk- don't just drop it off, but stay and ask "what are you working on? can you explain it to me?"- and this will allow you an opening to get to know them a little better and more importantly learn about their work. So it is about being a little outgoing and trying to engage your colleagues- showing your interest in learning as much as possible. Of course understanding that it may not always be an opportune time for them to stop and take the time to respond- but you have to ask and express that interest so they can talk to you when they do have the time.
