Dress Code

What might make sense is to take the first few days to observe the environment/company culture- and then adjust your attire accordingly. Casey Gerald at Yale asks what color suits should a man wear on Wall Street. Again it is better to be conservative- and go with the dark blue suits- avoid the lighter colors even though it is summer. When you are asked to dress business casual, remember it is smart business casual- don’t dress down! A rule of thumb you want to keep in mind is this- your work is what you want people to remember about you- not your dress, not your jewelry, not your make up. So always err on the side of caution!
Coming from someone who's been overdressed and underdressed for many separate events, it is ALWAYS better to be overly formal than not formal at all. You can always take off a jacket and/or tie to dress down. However, if you show up without the jacket and tie to a formal event, there's no wiggle room here. "Better safe than sorry."
