Jonathan Jackson from Harvard University asks what is the best way to try and build a solid professional and personal relationship with a mentor? What is the best way to spark their interest in you? Mentoring relationships can be formal (when your company assigns a mentor to you)- or informal (when you make a connect with someone based on a commonality). Either way there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to developing this relationship. Be sincere- about your interest in what they do and in any advice they give you. Be respectful of their time and prepare for meetings ahead. Go for quality rather than quantity- and try and tap into their knowledge and experience. Don’t push the relationship- give it time to develop- wait for permission to build it.
